Identity Theft Fraud
It's a big deal… and it's real!
Do you know the warning signs that you may be the victim of Identity Theft Fraud?
Most of the time there are no single warning sign that identity theft fraud has occurred. As one woman relayed to me:
I didn't know I was the victim of identity theft until I checked my credit card statement one day and it said I owed nearly $10,000. I kept my balance under $1000.
1. It's important to keep track of your bills.
2. Has your credit card statement suddenly stopped arriving?
3. Have you stopped receiving your bank statements?
Don't assume that the bank of credit card company or even the post office has made a mistake. You have to be proactive to protect yourself against Identity Theft.
The best advice I can offer is to find a way to stay on top of your credit reports. I use the Avail Credit-Coach because I have 24-7 access to my credit report and if something seems fishy, I can go to my computer and check.
More signs that you've been the victim of Identity Theft:
4. Have you been denied credit for no obvious reason?
5. Have you started getting bills from creditors you don't recognize?
6. Are you getting collection calls about accounts you don't recognize?
You can't be sure of identity theft unless you have a copy of your credit report. Only then can you check your credit history and see if identity theft has occurred.
